How it works
Three steps
- 1
Print the sheets
From any assignment, print an answer sheet for every student. The QR code ties each sheet to the right student and question.
- 2
Students write
They sit the test on paper, the way they always have, in class or as homework.
- 3
Scan and review
Scan the finished sheets and upload them. xedu reads and marks each answer, then shows you the few it needs you to decide.
What you get
What comes out the other end
Matched automatically
The QR code on each page means no sorting scripts into names before marking.
Handwriting read
Written answers and filled-in bubbles are read from the scanned page.
Marked per question
Each answer is checked against the assignment’s answer key and rubric.
Unsure? It asks you
Answers it can’t read or judge confidently are held for you instead of guessed.
Feeds skill tracking
Per-question marks update each student’s picture of which skills they’ve got and which they haven’t.
Works with any assignment
Generate the test with the assignment generator, print it with the answer sheets, and mark it the same week.
Any curriculum
Works with the course you teach
Paper marking works for every curriculum, because it marks against the assignment’s own answer key and rubric. Use it for MYP criteria tasks, IGCSE-style structured questions, A-level problems or a Grade 5 spelling test.

Questions
Common questions
Do I need special paper or a scanner?
No special paper. xedu prints the answer sheets on ordinary paper, and you scan them with whatever scanner or copier your school has.
What happens if it can’t read an answer?
It holds that answer back and asks you, rather than guessing. You make the call.
Can students answer on their own paper?
Paper marking relies on the printed answer sheets, because the QR code is how xedu knows whose answer it’s reading and for which question.
Is this available for online assignments?
Online assignments are marked through AI grading instead. Paper answer sheets are for work done on paper.
